Turbine Details

The GHREPOWER 100kW wind turbine has a gearless design, offering the advantages of:

• Greater simplicity and reliability

• Quieter operation

• Greater efficiency

It also has blade pitch control – a feature which increases efficiency and safety, but is only normally found in larger turbines.

All components of the system come with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty and we can also offer a five-year maintenance contract.

Dimensions:

The 100kW turbine is available with a 20m, 24m, 30m or 36m tower, giving hub heights of 21m, 25m, 31m and 37m. Scale drawings of each size are available on request.

Acoustic Sound Power Level:

Measurements have been assessed by Intertek to IEC 61400-11:2006 standard.

Sound power level at the hub is 99.6dB(A) – in standard conditions (at 10m/s, 10m height). Full report is available upon request. See appendix.

G59 Certification

The inverters we use are G59 certified, complying with UK DNO grid connection requirements. Full certified report available upon request. See appendix.

GHREPOWER Powering Your Future

How much energy will be produced?

The energy produced depends on the wind speed at the site, determined by altitude, relief, aspect and obstructions. Wind speed increases with height above the ground therefore to maximise your energy yield it may be worth considering our highest tower height of 36m.

Estimates of energy yield require accurate wind data measured at the site. There is however a lot of information in the public domain, which will allow you to get a rough estimate of the wind speed at your site and from that the likely energy yield. The map below shows average wind speeds across the UK.

Government wind speed database:

DECC provides a database of average wind speed at a variety of heights for every 1km grid square across the UK. This database will provide you with a rough indication of the annual average wind speed of a site, but it is important to note that this information is only an estimate, based on an air flow model. The wind at your site will be affected by topography, elevation and obstructions such as trees and buildings. The wind speed is given for 45m, 25m and 10m above ground level. Use the level that is closest to your planned hub height.

http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/meeting_energy/wind/windsp_databas/windsp_databas.aspx

Met Office data:

Page 7: GHREPOWER · Rated power 100 kW Maximum output 102 ... (DC) Remote monitoring system SCADA Generator Generator type 3 Phase, ... 40 60 80 100 …

GHREPOWER Powering Your Future

For a more accurate analysis the Met Office uses numerical modelling to provide annual mean wind speed estimates for specified grid locations and heights above the groundhttp://www.metoffice.gov.uk/energy/renewables/wind/site/metmast This information is not bankable, but does provide a more accurate way of evaluating projects than the DECC database. Full reports from the Met Office can cost several thousand pounds, but GHREPOWER can acquire the site mean wind speed estimates, on your behalf, for £250.00 per site. This service is charged at cost. Energy yield:

Once you have a good idea of the wind speed at your site you can see how it ties into the energy yield table below. This table is based on a 95% availability and also gives estimates for the amount of CO2 saved.

Average Wind Speed at Hub (m/s)

How much money could I earn?

The amount of income generated from a wind turbine can be difficult to calculate. There are four components that make up the total value of the income generated, namely:

Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Export value Offset value for energy used on-site Renewables Levy Exemption Certificates (Renewables LECs)

Feed-in-Tariff:

The Feed-in Tariff is paid for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity generated regardless of whether it is consumed on-site or exported. This tariff is banded and has recently been reviewed.

The current tariff rate for a 100kW wind farm is 25.4p/kWh, this is set to be reduced to 21p/kWh from October 2012.

GHREPOWER, 1 High Street, Clydach, Swansea, SA65LGwww.ghrepower.co.uk

Page 8: GHREPOWER · Rated power 100 kW Maximum output 102 ... (DC) Remote monitoring system SCADA Generator Generator type 3 Phase, ... 40 60 80 100 …

GHREPOWER Powering Your Future

Once a wind farm is registered for the Feed-in Tariff it is locked into that tariff for 20 years, but is index-linked to RPI, so its value in real terms will not be affected by inflation.

The Feed-in Tariff banding applies to the total installed capacity of the wind farm, so if two GHREPOWER 100kW turbines were installed the total capacity would be 200kW and it would fall into the 20.7p/kWh band, not the 25.4p/kWh that would apply for a single GHREPOWER 100kw. However, if a second GHREPOWER 100kw was added to a site more than a year after the first GHREPOWER 100kw, then the second would get the lower FiT but the first would continue to receive the higher rate.

Offset value:

By using the electricity generated, on site, large savings can be made. The price paid for importing electricity from the grid varies depending on your tariff, but it is typically 12p/kWh. Therefore for every kWh used on site you make a saving of 12p, this value is considerably higher than the export value.

Export value:

Any electricity which isn't used on site is exported to the grid. The export value is payable for every kWh of electricity exported to the grid rather than used on site. This flow of electricity is recorded by an export meter. The government has set this value at a minimum of 3.1p/kWh (index-linked), however it is possible to negotiate a better rate with your electricity supplier.

Renewables Levy Exemption Certificates (Renewables LECs):

For commercial energy uses, the Renewables LEC offers an exemption from the Climate Change Levy (CCL) and another potential costs saving. The CCL is currently set at £4.85 / MWh (or 0.485 p/kWh) of electricity consumed.

In order to become exempt and gain a Renewables LEC, you need to register with Ofgem, at https://www.renewablesandchp.ofgem.gov.uk/.

Total income:

The table below combines all of these four components with estimated energy yields, to give a guide to potential income.

The table assumes that:• Current FIT rate of £0.254 per kW/h• Current FIT export rate of £0.031 per kW/h• 50% on-site consumption, with savings from own energy use at £0.12

per kW/h• LEC income on energy used at 0.485p per kW/h

Grid Connection

Grid connection of any wind turbine is carried out by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Details of the DNO serving your region can be found on the national grid website. (http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/AboutElectricity/DistributionCompanies/ ).

The main requirement is a 3 phase grid connection point, which can be a maximum of 500m from your turbine.

The DNO will need to carry out a grid connection study in order to supply likely capacities and costs for grid connection.

More details regarding grid connection are available upon request.

Crane and Access Requirements

The turbine components will be delivered in standard 40 foot shipping containers. The turbine requires an 80 tonne crane for construction. A suitable access route for these vehicles will need to be identified.

At the site, an access track will need to be constructed to the turbine locations. This would be composed of hardcore and is expected to be 4m wide with a depth of 300mm, subject to survey. A crane hard-standing of 10m x 10m will also be required and constructed to the same specification as the access track.

More details regarding access requirements are available upon request.

Foundation Design

The foundation is made of reinforced concrete and a steel cage. Adjustable piping, and tubing for the earthing and cabling will be buried within the concrete. The tower is bolted to the foundations. Before the foundation construction takes place a geotechnical survey is required, and the exact foundation specification altered with respect to this.

The expected foundation size is 7 m x 7 m and 2 m deep.

More details regarding the foundation requirements are available upon request.
