TERTIR Overview

On Course for the Future

TERTIR's roots lie in the management of ports and land-transport terminals and this group of companies has directed its strategy at providing its customers a coordinate set of Integrated Logistics services.

The complementary nature of its services and the natural synergies generated by the various business areas have allowed TERTIR on an ongoing basis to increase value on its services for the customers, consolidating its position as a market leader and a referenced strategic partner in Portugal.

Providing an integrated set of activities in stevedoring, road and rail transport, intermodal logistics and facilities, distribution, forwarding and other related services, TERTIR adds value to the process of goods transport throughout the whole cycle, from initial shipper to the end of the consumption or manufacturing chain.

A part of the Mota-Engil Group, one of Portugal's leading economic groups, TERTIR plans to complement these activities with a coherent process of international expansion.

TERTIR occupies an outstanding position in port terminal operations. Consolidating its know-how in the concession of public infrastructures, TERTIR provides public service in the operation of Portugal's main terminals: containers, break-bulk and bulk cargoes, both foodstuffs and industrial. In this way, the ports of Lisbon, Leixões (Oporto), Setúbal, Aveiro and Figueira da Foz are served by a structures providing international quality standards and reliable services.

The present link between these port terminals and the national railway network is a critical factor, opening up competitive access to the entire western region of the Iberian Peninsula and in particular, to the major metropolitan regions of Lisbon and Madrid.

Takargo is the first private Portuguese railway operator equipped to act continuously throughout the Iberian Peninsula, turning the railway into an economically viable and environmentally efficient mode of transport for goods between the port terminals, the logistic platforms and the end customers.

For the three transport areas - intermodal sea, intermodal cars and specialized intermodal - one also includes services provided using swap bodies. Cargo handling and transfer between the various modes of transport are provided throughout a coherent terminal network, while complementary road services can also be provided.

Management of cargo flows using the various modes is a critical success factor on customer relations, and for this reason Takargo has implemented a service on the Internet designed to provide permanent cargo monitoring.

An outstanding platform in generating synergies within TERTIR, Transitex is the forwarder company that articulates all the movement of containers between logistic platforms and the port terminals, while also making full use of intermodal transport. TERTIR also provide services in Oporto and Aveiro Ports as shipping agent, trough local companies.

Transitex has accompanied the internationalization of Mota-Engil Group. Its branches in Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Mozambique and Angola, and a network of exclusive agents in Mexico, Brazil, Russia and China reflect the extent of Transitex's world influence.

At Iberian level, Transitex is now a benchmark for the flow of containerized goods. The company plays a fundamental role in extending the hinterland of the port terminals operated by TERTIR in Portugal, and provides competitive access to the export foreland for Spanish companies located in the country's western and central provinces.
