Classical composers

Orchestral music in the classical period was dominated by Mozart, Haydn and, towards the end of the period Beethoven.

All of the above wrote symphonies, but Ludwig van Beethoven wrote perhaps the most famous symphony of all. The one that goes:

Beethoven’s fifth: theme one

The first movement of Beethoven’s ‘Symphony no. 5’ is written in sonata form.

Beethoven’s fifth: theme two

Theme two:

♫ Listen to the piece and see if you can identify the two main themes when they first

appear in the exposition. ♫
